Role summary

We are seeking a PBL generalist primary teacher to champion immersive, project-based education. In this role, you will blend outstanding instruction with a strong pedagogical emphasis on literacy and real-life application through our Dream-to-Reality (D2R) programme. You will challenge students with engaging, interdisciplinary inquiries that integrate academic rigour with social-emotional development.

You will also drive curriculum quality, collaborating within Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to document units via the Understanding by Design (UbD) framework. Crucially, as the Homeroom Educator, you will serve as the primary mentor and main point of contact for parents regarding their child's holistic growth. You will cultivate an inclusive culture of care, utilising restorative justice practices to guide students through conflict and foster resilient community relationships.

Key responsibilities

PBL instruction and facilitation

  • Deliver and facilitate high-impact, inclusive, real-life project-based learning (PBL) experiences that integrate literacy, humanities, science, and environmental understanding, both independently and in co-teaching settings.

  • Lead or co-lead regular learning excursions and community-based experiential learning.

  • Implement instruction using the UbD framework and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to ensure accessibility for all students.

  • Conduct diagnostic reading and writing assessments; proactively use data to differentiate instruction and personalise learning pathways.

  • Engage students in criteria-based assessment and provide clear, actionable feedback aligned with REAL School’s competency framework.

  • Integrate instructional technology and AI tools to enhance both teaching and assessment practices.

  • Maintain high expectations for learning and behaviour through positive, restorative classroom management.

Curriculum stewardship and collaboration

  • Actively participate in PLCs to review student learning evidence, plan responsive instruction, and refine curriculum units.

  • Systematically document and align curriculum units in REAL School’s planning system.

  • Collaborate across core programmes (D2R, Regeneration, Wellbeing, Literacy) to ensure coherent, deeply interdisciplinary learning experiences.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of REAL School’s progressive curriculum and assessment systems.

Community and wellbeing (homeroom)

  • Lead and nurture a small advisory/community group, fostering belonging, reflection, and social-emotional growth.

  • Build and sustain positive relationships with parents and caregivers, maintaining open, proactive communication about student progress and wellbeing.

  • Model and nurture REAL School’s regenerative ethos through authentic, hands-on learning and reflective practice.

Qualifications and experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.

  • Valid teaching certification.

  • Minimum of three years of full-time teaching experience demonstrating high efficacy in the classroom.

  • Proven expertise in PBL planning and delivery and strong literacy instruction.

  • Experience using the UbD framework and actively engaging in PLCs.

  • Strong classroom management and practical understanding of restorative practices.

  • Commitment to inclusive, student-centred, and experiential learning.

  • Good communication, organisational, and social skills, as well as a kind heart.

Desirable

  • Experience with competency-based assessment and UDL principles.

  • Experience using AI tools or educational technologies to support teaching and learning.

  • Entrepreneurial experience and/or volunteer work with social or environmental causes.
